Fire

The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects the community with a dedicated team of volunteer firefighters, responding to hundreds of fire and rescue incidents each year with skill, courage, and dedication.

Dedicated Volunteers

Our volunteer firefighters are committed to keeping Moscow safe. Each month, they donate countless hours of training, station duty, and emergency response. They drop what they are doing at a moment’s notice, 24 hours a day, to respond to fires, rescues, and other emergencies in our community.

Training

Becoming a volunteer firefighter requires commitment, resilience, and teamwork. New recruits begin their journey in our annual Fall Fire Academy, where they train in fire suppression, search and rescue, vehicle extrication, and hazardous materials response.

After completing the academy and successfully passing our in-house examination, recruits are eligible to earn their Firefighter I certification through Fire Service Technology (FST) of Idaho, in partnership with the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).

Training doesn’t stop at the academy. Certified firefighters participate in ongoing drills, skills testing, and advanced training to ensure they are always ready to respond. Volunteers also have the opportunity to pursue higher-level certifications including Firefighter II, Rescue Technician, and EMS certifications which open the door to leadership roles and more complex incident responsibilities.

Firefighting & Community Support

Moscow Volunteer Firefighters respond not only to emergencies within the city but also support neighboring communities through mutual aid agreements. Their dedication ensures that both Moscow and the surrounding areas have trained, capable responders available in times of need. By volunteering with our fire division, members gain invaluable skills, experience, and the satisfaction of serving and protecting their neighbors.
