We are a proud and dedicated group of community members responding to more than 3,000 medical and fire calls each year. Serving as a volunteer with the Moscow Volunteer Fire & EMS is a rewarding but demanding role. Our volunteers help save lives, support neighbors in need, and strengthen the safety and resilience of our community.

Requirements for Volunteers

  • Must participate in monthly meetings and trainings.
  • Ability to handle physically demanding and emotionally challenging work.
  • Commitment to a minimum of 24 hours per month for calls, shifts, and training.
  • Prioritize applicants who plan to live in Moscow for at least 3 years.
  • For EMS positions: must be a certified EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic, or be willing to enroll in the next EMT Class (offered twice yearly in Spring and Fall).

Membership Opportunities

We accept applications year-round for positions as a Volunteer EMT, Paramedic, or Firefighter.

Fire Division: Lateral Firefighter or Prospective Firefighter (Fire Academy).

EMS Division: Currently certified EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic. For those without certification, our EMT classes are the first step to joining.

Volunteer Service

The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is over 130 years old and it is stronger today than ever in its history. Its members volunteer thousands of hours of training and countless hours of response time every year without cost to the citizens of Moscow. Currently, the MVFD has approximately 90 volunteers providing fire protection service and volunteer ambulance service to 6.1 square miles in the city of Moscow and 128 square miles in the Moscow Rural Fire District.
